NRW to JPG converter
A free NRW to JPG converter that also writes PNG and WebP, entirely in your browser. NRW is the raw file Nikon’s Coolpix cameras write, and it is the Nikon format most converters forget. This lifts out the full-size JPEG the camera embedded and converts it, without uploading anything.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Converted files don’t keep EXIF or color profile data.
Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
How to convert an NRW
- Add your NRW filesDrag in the files from your Coolpix card, or browse for them. They are read on your machine, however many you add at once.
- Keep JPG, or pick PNG or WebPJPG is preselected for a Coolpix shot you want to send or post. PNG keeps the extracted image lossless; WebP makes it smallest.
- Convert and downloadEach NRW goes through the same reader as a Nikon NEF, since both share one layout, and the preview the Coolpix embedded is re-encoded. A preview under 1024 pixels on its long side fails its row instead of being upscaled.
Questions about converting NRW
Yes: the Coolpix wrote its own JPEG of the shot into the NRW, and that is what gets extracted and converted, not a fresh development of the raw data. For that, use Nikon’s NX Studio, Lightroom or the free darktable.
They are two raw formats from the same company. NEF is what Nikon’s DSLRs and Z bodies write; NRW is what the Coolpix compacts write. Both are built on the same underlying layout, which is why the same extraction works on either, but the files are not interchangeable — and there is a NEF page here too.
Four of the five real NRW files measured converted. The one that did not is a compact whose embedded preview is too small to hand back: under 1024 pixels on its long side, or under 40 percent of the raw image’s own long side, the row fails with a message instead of upscaling a thumbnail into something that looks like a conversion.
One file is free. Four hundred, on brand, in every size, is what we do.
