Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Every file is decoded, redrawn and re-encoded by your own browser — nothing is sent to a server at any point, which is why the tool keeps working with the network disconnected once the page has loaded. It also means very large batches are limited by your machine, not by an upload cap.

How many files can I convert at once?

There is no fixed limit and no daily cap. Files are processed one after another so the page stays responsive and you can watch each row progress. Very large batches of very large images are bounded by your available memory, so if a batch stalls, convert it in a couple of smaller runs. One ZIP carries up to 65,535 files or 4 GB.

Which formats can I convert to?

WebP, JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP and ICO. The first three are written by the browser itself; GIF, TIFF, BMP and ICO are written by this page, because a canvas asked for those types quietly returns a PNG instead. AVIF, HEIC, PSD and the camera raw formats are read but not written — no browser encodes AVIF or HEIC from a canvas, and handing back a PNG with an .avif or .nef name on it would break anything that opened it.

What image formats can I convert from?

PNG, JPG (and JFIF), WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, PSD and SVG, plus HEIC and HEIF from phones and NEF, CR2, CR3, ARW, PEF, NRW and SRW from cameras. A RAW file gives the full-size preview the camera embedded rather than a developed sensor file; a PSD gives the flattened image saved inside it; an SVG is drawn at the size it states; and an animated GIF or a multi-page TIFF gives its first frame.

Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos here?

Yes — HEIC is read as an input, so you can turn a camera roll into JPG, PNG or WebP. It is the one format your browser cannot decode by itself, so a small decoder is fetched the first time you convert one; that first photo takes a few seconds longer and the rest of the batch runs at normal speed. It still happens entirely on your machine.

What does the converter do with a camera raw file?

It extracts the full-size JPEG preview your camera already wrote inside the raw file and converts that. It does not develop the sensor data — no demosaicing, no white balance, no exposure work — so treat it as a fast way to get a shareable image out of a shoot, not as a replacement for Lightroom or darktable. Nikon NEF and NRW, Canon CR2 and CR3, Sony ARW, Pentax PEF and Samsung SRW are supported. Adobe DNG and a few others are not: those files often carry no full-size preview to extract, and a page that fails on most of what you drop on it is worse than no page at all.

Can I convert a JPG or PNG to SVG here?

No, because that is not a format change, it is a redraw. Turning a photo or a logo into paths needs a tracing model, which is what our separate image to SVG converter does.

Does converting an image lose quality?

No if you convert to PNG, TIFF or BMP, which keep every pixel. JPG and WebP re-compress — at fixed qualities, 90 and 85, chosen where the artefacts stop being visible — and GIF drops the picture to 256 colors, so avoid pushing the same file back and forth between formats repeatedly, because each pass throws away a little more.

Can I convert an animated GIF?

Yes, but only its first frame: there is no multi-frame output here, so an animation becomes a still image.

Which format should you use?

PNG keeps everything and stays large. JPG is small and lossy with no transparency. WebP is usually a third of the JPG at the same quality. Two questions settle which one you want.

Why do people convert images?

Almost always because something refused the file they had, or because the file was too big for where it was going.

Optimize images for the web
A page carrying twenty JPGs loads noticeably slower than the same page in WebP, which is usually about a third of the size at the same quality. Convert the folder once and the difference is permanent.
Get RAW files out of the camera
NEF, CR2 and ARW hold the most information and are the least shareable. Convert them to JPG for approval rounds and keep the originals for the edit.
Fix HEIC from an iPhone
iOS shoots HEIC by default and a great many upload forms, CMSs and older design tools still refuse it. PNG or JPG makes the problem disappear.
Meet a platform's spec
